Flushing/Water Quality
District Field Staff will begin water system maintenance as soon as the weather permits. All fire hydrants and dead end water lines will be flushed in 2011 to ensure water quality is maintained during the low demand time of the year. This will ensure proper chlorine residual and an aesthetic value to the water as well as ensuring proper operation in case of emergency.  At times during this procedure, sediment can be stirred up causing discoloration at the tap. Run water if this happens until it clears. One half of the approximately 950 fire hydrants in the District will be painted this year. All fire hydrants receive a new coat of paint every two years.

Water Valve Maintenance

The District field staff will be operating and inspecting approximately one half of the Districts 2000 water main line valves in 2011 to ensure proper operation in an emergency. This work has already begun and will continue until completed.

Sewer System Cleaning and Video Inspection
Bancroft-Clover Water and Sanitation District has a comprehensive sanitary sewer cleaning and inspection program. Each year approximately 33% of the over 120 miles of sanitary sewer line is cleaned, inspected, and videotaped to maintain flow and to identify problem areas that may need additional work such as root cutting or point repairs. In 2011 over 155,000 feet of sanitary sewer lines will be cleaned and inspected by a sub contractor of the District, (Guildner Pipeline Maintenance).

Water Distribution System Leak Survey

In 2006 the District embarked on a water distribution system leak survey program that would cover one fourth of the District’s 110 miles of water mains each year looking for non surfacing leaks. Utility Technical Services has conducted the survey for the District in the past and will continue in 2011. During this program several water leaks were found in water mains, fire hydrant, and water service lines. These leaks were pinpointed by the leak survey equipment and repaired by the Districts maintenance contractor. This program has saved the District thousands of dollars in water savings.
