System Information » Current Maintenance
Flushing/Water Quality
District Field Staff will begin water system maintenance as soon as the weather permits. All fire hydrants and dead end water lines will be flushed in 2011 to ensure water quality is maintained during the low demand time of the year. This will ensure proper chlorine residual and an aesthetic value to the water as well as ensuring proper operation in case of emergency. At times during this procedure, sediment can be stirred up causing discoloration at the tap. Run water if this happens until it clears. One half of the approximately 950 fire hydrants in the District will be painted this year. All fire hydrants receive a new coat of paint every two years.
Water Valve Maintenance
The District field staff will be operating and inspecting approximately one half of the Districts 2000 water main line valves in 2011 to ensure proper operation in an emergency. This work has already begun and will continue until completed.
Sewer System Cleaning and Video Inspection
Bancroft-Clover Water and Sanitation District has a comprehensive sanitary sewer cleaning and inspection program. Each year approximately 33% of the over 120 miles of sanitary sewer line is cleaned, inspected, and videotaped to maintain flow and to identify problem areas that may need additional work such as root cutting or point repairs. In 2011 over 155,000 feet of sanitary sewer lines will be cleaned and inspected by a sub contractor of the District, (Guildner Pipeline Maintenance).
Water Distribution System Leak Survey
In 2006 the District embarked on a water distribution system leak survey program that would cover one fourth of the District’s 110 miles of water mains each year looking for non surfacing leaks. Utility Technical Services has conducted the survey for the District in the past and will continue in 2011. During this program several water leaks were found in water mains, fire hydrant, and water service lines. These leaks were pinpointed by the leak survey equipment and repaired by the Districts maintenance contractor. This program has saved the District thousands of dollars in water savings.

2010 Water Line Replacement Project
The District will finish upgrading its four inch water lines in 2010 by replacing approximately 1,000 feet of undersized piping in the 1000 block of South Teller Street that can no longer deliver the optimum amount of fire flow that modern firefighting equipment can use. These lines were service for over 50 years and are at the end of their useful lifespan. This project has been awarded and construction will be completed later this year. The 2010 project is the last year of a a multi-year water line replacement project.
Thank you for your patience during this important project.
Water Distribution System Pressure Improvements
The Bancroft-Clover Water and Sanitation District has struck a deal with Denver Water to expand the pressure zone served by Kendricks Pump Station which would allow Bancroft to discontinue pumping from the W. Florida Avenue and S. Pierce Street Pumping facility. This change will save the District considerable maintenance and utility costs. Also, this particular area of the District with customers that have had historically received low pressure and those customers that have had seasonal pressure from summer to winter will receive higher pressure that will remain constant throughout the year. The system improvements are complete and the new pressure is flowing to the affected customers.

Cold Weather Still Possible!
Don’t let the warm weather trick you into turning on the sprinkler system or leaving the hose connected to the house. Wintertime watering is important, especially during the dry spells we have had lately. However, historic average temperatures in the Denver area will show that the odds are in favor of having a very cold snap before we reach spring. Each year that we have a warm stretch of weather in the winter some homeowners forget to remove the hose from the hose bib or they turn the sprinkler system on and the cold temperatures will cause piping to freeze and then break. Many field service calls occur each year to assist homeowners in turning off leaking pipes that cause damage to equipment and basements. In extreme cold weather leave cabinets open to allow for warm air to circulate and leaving a distant faucet dripping slightly, will prevent a problem. Additional cold weather tips can be found at www.denverwater.org under the “Water Service and Support” tab.
District to Upgrade Billing System in 2012.
In 2012 Bancroft-Clover Water and Sanitation District will change the billing software the District has used for over 15 years. The new system will allow for customers to access their accounts on line, to check current water usage, or to see water and sewer billing information. The system will also allow for credit card payments as well as one time automatic payments to be initiated by customers. This new billing software will also link to the Districts new GIS program to instantly connect to a database of information that will improve efficiency in many areas of office and field operations. Please look for changes in 2012!
Denver Water Rebates Available for Residential and Commercial Customers in 2012
The water saving device rebate program has been funded for 2012. The purchase of qualifying high efficiency clothes washers, high efficiency toilets (1.28 gallons per flush), rotary nozzles, and weather-based smart controllers are eligible for a rebate paid directly to Bancroft-Clover customers by Denver Water. Some rebates have been changed for 2012 so check the information before purchasing items! Forms and receipts must be delivered to the Bancroft-Clover Water and Sanitation District office for verification and forwarding to Denver Water for processing. Complete program information including specific model eligibility and forms are available at www.denverwater.org under the conservation tab. Bancroft-Clover customers were among the leaders of suburban water users in the amount of rebates received in 2011.
Save Time and Postage in 2012!
Join the Bancroft-Clover Water and Sanitation District’s Automatic Payment Program. The program can save time paying bills and will prevent the account from ever having a late fee. There is no charge for the program and customers will even save on postage. A bill is sent to all District customers with detailed water use information. Customers will be advised of the specific date when the automatic payment will be deducted from their account. If there are any questions on the monthly billing customers may call the District office prior to the payment.

About Bancroft-Clover
Bancroft-Clover Water and Sanitation District is a non-profit governmental Colorado Special District that was formed on the 30th day of August 1954. In 1980 the Bancroft Water and Sanitation District merged with the Cloverdale Water and Sanitation District and became known as Bancroft-Clover Water and Sanitation District. In 1985 the Bancroft-Clover Water and Sanitation District entered into an agreement with the Kelton Heights Water and Sanitation District assuming all responsibly for all existing Kelton customers.
The current Bancroft-Clover Water and Sanitation District provides water and sanitary sewer services to over 65,000 people in Lakewood and unincorporated Jefferson County. The District is governed by an elected five person Board of Directors. The Board meets on the third Monday of each month (excluding holidays) at the District offices at 6PM. Meetings are open to the public.
The District is a Denver Water Master Meter Distributor and purchases all treated water from Denver Water. Denver is responsible for all routine water quality testing and EPA reporting requirements.
Bancroft has an agreement with Metro Wastewater Reclamation District for the treatment of the sewage that is created by Bancroft-Clover Water and Sanitation District customers. Sewage is transmitted to Metro’s plant located in the area of 72nd and York in the northern part of Denver.
Currently the District staff consists of six full-time and one part-time office employees, six full-time field employees and the General Manager. Customer billing, payment collection, and customer service are all done in house by office staff. All system maintenance is performed by field staff. Underground repairs and water and sewer main line replacement projects are done by private contractors under District supervision.
The main office and shop are located at 900 South Wadsworth Blvd. in Lakewood Colorado. A satellite facility for secure vehicle and equipment storage is located on Florida west of Kipling Parkway and was completed in 2003.
