Summer Record Heat Wave Pushes Customers to Near Record Water Use!

The customers of Bancroft-Clover Water and Sanitation District used more water in July 2008 than any other July since the year 2000. The extended number of 90 degree days has pushed customers to increase the time irrigating and additional days to try to keep things green. Please remember that no watering is allowed between 10 AM and 6 PM. Also watering in the early morning helps avoid the windy evenings that will cause the water intended for your lawn to blow into the air and street! Spot watering dry areas can also keep the turf looking good without watering the entire lawn. There are many watering and landscaping tips to help customers to save water on Denver Water’s web site www.denverwater.org. A link to the Denver Water site can also be found on the Bancroft-Clover Water and Sanitation District web site www.bancroft-clover.com and go to the water resources page to find the link.

Fire Hydrant Painting Program

Nearing Completion For 2008

District Field personnel have painted over 450 fire hydrants bright red this summer. Each fire hydrant will be painted every two years to make the hydrant visible for the fire department in case of an emergency as well as to maintain a coating on the fire hydrant to prevent rust. The painting is another part of the overall fire hydrant operation and maintenance program for the District. Bancroft-Clover Water and Sanitation District has a proactive maintenance program that includes annual operation, testing, and routine maintenance as well as the replacement of older fire hydrants each year.

District Pump Station Renovation Project to

Begin in October

A pump station that is below ground near the intersection of West Florida Ave. and South Pierson Street will be rebuilt after the irrigation season. The pump station was originally built in 1974 and has had minor improvements through out the years. However, this is the first time the station will be completely rebuilt to utilize new technology in pumps, motors, and electrical control which will improve the fire fighting capacity of the station fifty percent to ensure the highest points in the District receive adequate fire flows in case of emergencies. The consulting engineering firm of Merrick and Company will provide the design and construction inspection services for the District. A temporary pumping station will be placed above ground near the location to maintain pressure in the area. Please watch for construction personnel and drive carefully in the work zone. The District appreciates the patience of the public during this important water distribution system improvement project. The cost of the project is approximately $500,000.00 and will be paid from District reserves budgeted for these upgrades.

District Web Site Upgraded

The Bancroft-Clover Water and Sanitation Districts web site

www.bancroft-clover.com has been upgraded to allow for District staff to easily and quickly change all of the text on the site. The information will be more current thereby providing better communication with all customers. The need for technical assistance to make major text changes will be eliminated thereby reducing overall costs. The District‘s site is relatively small providing basic information regarding the District’s history, staff, and partner providers. There are also links to web sites that will provide a large amount of information to water and sewer service customers. The web site also provides a “Contact Us” link to send an email message to the office staff. There will continue to be changes and updates to the web site as we move into the fall.
