Field Crews to Begin Water Main Flushing Program

Bancroft-Clover Water and Sanitation District field crews will soon begin the “2008 Fire Hydrant Testing and Water Main Flushing Program”. As the weather allows, the field crews will be flushing fire hydrants as well as areas of the water distribution system that do not have significant winter time water demand. Area residents may see Bancroft-Clover Water and Sanitation District vehicles with water running down the gutter in many areas. Portions of the water distribution system do not have a very large water usage in the winter and this can lead to water quality concerns if not addressed with a yearly routine system flushing program. The areas that are of most concern are dead end water lines such as in cul-de-sac’s. All fire hydrants will also be tested to ensure that the hydrant has not been damaged during the winter and that it will work properly in case of a fire. If the crews are flushing in your area please drive carefully and watch for district personnel.

Fire Hydrants Damaged During Snow Removal?

Every winter there are several fire hydrants that are damaged during the winter. Some fire hydrants are hit by vehicles that lost control and others can be damaged by snowplows or by heavy equipment moving large amounts of snow and ice. Bancroft-Clover Water and Sanitation District field crews will be checking all fire hydrants in the District as the weather allows. If you see any fire hydrants that appear to have been hit by a vehicle, leaking, or damaged in any way contact the District office. Field crews will check the hydrant immediately and notify the West Metro Fire District that the hydrant will be out of service until repairs can be performed. The proper operation of fire hydrants and identification of problems can save property and even lives when every minute counts in an emergency.

Are You Covered For a Sewer Back Up?

Do you know that insurance coverage for sewer backups is not usually included with typical Homeowners Insurance Policies? Most insurance companies will offer a rider at a very reasonable rate to help protect homeowners from expensive home clean up and repair costs. The extra insurance is inexpensive and there are usually varying amounts of coverage available. Call your Homeowners Insurance Agent to get more information.

Indoor Water Saving Ideas.

Do you know that insulating your hot water tank and hot water piping can save water?

By insulating the tank and piping it takes less time for the hot water to flow to the sink, tub, or shower and thereby will save water. To save even more water keep a bucket near the sink or bathtub to catch some of the water before the hot water appears and use the water to water plants! There are plastic buckets with a package of water saving items included, such as a water saving showerhead, sink aerator and shut off, toilet tank dye tablets to check for leaks, and an inflatable bag to put into the toilet tank of older toilets to save water each flush, available in the District office for just $5.00 each! District office hours are 7AM to 4PM Monday through Friday.
