Did You Remember To Winterize?

The beautiful Colorado fall we have enjoyed has led many customers to delay the winterizing of the water sprinkler systems and the removal of the hoses from the hose bibs. Damage from frozen pipes can be expensive and frustrating! Hose bibs will break inside the foundation at the valve and the water will leak inside the basement or crawl space not outside! The simple exercise of removing hoses from hose bibs will be sufficient in most cases however if the hose bib is on the north side of the building or in an area that will not see any sun in the winter an insulating cover for the hose bib is a great idea. The covers can be found at most hardware or plumbing supply stores.

Don’t forget the sprinkler systems and swamp coolers! Additional information was in last month’s newsletter.

Past newsletters are available at www.bancroft-clover.com.

Scheduled 2007 Water System Maintenance Completed!

District field personnel have completed the 2007 water distribution system maintenance according to the District’s ongoing maintenance program. During 2007 District personnel have inspected, operated, and documented over 1,000 water valves and flushed over 950 fire hydrants. The District field crews have also painted approximately 450 hydrants bright red. Also included in the ongoing maintenance activities of the District the field crews maintain the over 9,000 water meters, inspect pumping facilities 7 days a week including holidays, and field personnel are “on call” 24 hours a day to respond to emergencies. Bancroft-Clover Water and Sanitation District has a proactive field maintenance plan that is designed to maintain the water system to minimize and ensure resources are there for customers to provide an adequate water supply as well as for West Metro Fire Department to have the resources necessary to save lives and property.

Don’t Have the Holiday Sewer Line Blues!

Many sewer service line problems will show themselves at the worst times! This can be due to more than the usual number of people in the home, more meals prepared in the home or the type of material sent down the sink! If customers are having issues with their service lines it is an excellent idea to have work done before that big holiday meal or party day!

Remember no grease should ever be put down the drain! The grease will clog your sewer service line especially if you have roots! The District main lines can also be clogged with grease from service lines! Also never put potato or other types of peels down the drain! The peels do not break down very well in the garbage disposal and could again cause a backup at a very bad time! Remember the District is not responsible for sewer service line back ups and clean up can be expensive!
